Great Song

Of the songs we have been privy to hear from Randy's new album, this one is my favorite so far.
I love them all. But this one kind of reminds me a little of the George Jones classic, " He Stopped Loving Her Today". The fact that it is getting some pretty good reviews from some prominent music critics, may help to spur radio into playing it.

I was surprised that this became the next single, being another love song and ballad. I sure hope radio gives this one a fair chance to be heard. It's definetely as worthy as everything else being played at present. Dee

Canada and Single

randytravisfan5, for your sake, we hope it plays there; for our sake, we hope it even fairs better than "Faith in You" did here as I don't think that song was even given a fair chance.

As Dee said, "Dig Two Graves" is one of my favorites that we've heard so far. But i was a bit surprised since it appears radio hasn't taken to any of Randy's slow songs lately with neither four Walls, Angels, or Faith in You, that a more up-tempo one like Everything i Own Has Got a Dent wasn't chosen. Maybe it will be later; I hope so anyway.

Far too muchwork has gone into this entire CD for hese songs to be ignored; come on radio, get with it!!!

Dig two Graves on all About Country

I was pleased to see that All About Country has added "Dig Two Graves" to their new release section. I did go on the Vent Section and ask thos reading that section to take a listen to it expressing my thought that i thought it was such a powerful song and asked them to take a listen. My only comment also was that I hoped radio wouldn't pass on it like they did "Faith in You" and thanked those who did take the time to play "FIY."

I'm not advocating that everyone go on and start commenting on it as several posts could just aggrivate some of the readers but commenting on the song may not hurt; a word of encouragement, i guess, never does.

My main goal, of course, was to make them aware that it does exist and i thought they might take a moment to listen. let's hope so.

Dig Two Graves Song Review

I thought you'd all enjoy this if you've not seen it already.
It is a much better review than this site gave "Faith in You."

Review: Randy Travis, “Dig Two Graves”
There are love songs that can only be sung by older adults who have experienced a
lot more of life than young singers. When the concept of “till death do us part”
becomes an approaching reality rather than a distant one, the sentiment of “Dig Two
Graves” makes perfect sense. Here, Travis is refusing to imagine a life without
his wife by his side, and expresses that he won’t last long if God calls her first.
They might as well just dig two graves and carve one stone, because he won’t be able
to live without her gone.
He can’t imagine God could be so cruel as to take his wife and leave him behind,
forced to live without her. When two people really have become one through marriage
and a long life together, they no longer have separate identities. Losing your
spouse is losing yourself in that sense. This song is one of the purest expressions
of that reality I’ve ever heard, and it’s done without an ounce of cloying sentiment.
Just plain truth, like country music should be.

Nice review

I hadn't seen that yet Linda, so thanks for posting, and sharing. Its good to see it getting some nice commentary. Dee

Dig Two Grves, has

been added to the Country Bear's on line site now too. So that was nice to see as well. Faith In You is still listed for play several times a day on that sites "New Country and "Main" music streams. For anyone interested in checking out that on line site just go to http://www.CountryBear.com. Then do a search for Randy's air times. It will bring up a list of all the songs they have slotted for him. The day, time and which stream it will play on. That site supports ALL of Randy's releases, be they gospel or country. One note however, their time is posted as military time. ie: 13:00 would be the equivelent of 1:00 o'clock regular time. Dee

Country Bear Question?

Don't you have to pay for some of their streams? I thought at one time they went that that way and that was kind of when i detoured away from them myself. I think they wanted something like $10 a month or something. Just wondering.

I wouldn't even be paying that for XM right now if I didn't know randy would be on on 7/21.

Country Bear

I know you have mentioned that in one of our chats Linda. But I have never had to pay to listen to their streams. If they had considered charging then they must have changed their minds. Or maybe it is a fee that they charge independent artists to advertise their albums on their site, I honestly don't know. But I do know I have never paid to listen to any of their streams.

I've always just brought up the site and clicked on the stream I wanted and the on air icon and the player would play. You have to download their player oif course but that is all I've ever done. I listen to it more now, since I'm no longer on dial up connection. So don't get all the buffering interuptions of dial up. Dee

Another Dig Two Graves Review!!

Here's another good "Dig Two Graves" review from The 9513!! They gave it a Thumbs Up too!!

Randy Travis - “Dig Two Graves”
Songwriters: Ashley Gorley and Robert Regan

When my grandfather passed away in 1989, my grandmother had her name chiseled into the stone next to his with the date of death left blank and though she went on to live another 17 years and appreciated the time she had with her family, she looked forward to joining him again. After courting for less than a month over 50 years ago, my cousin got married, and they haven’t spent a night apart since. Those are the kind of stories you rarely hear or read about and the kind of love that’s rarely sung about. It’s from those kinds of relationships that I’m able to relate to the sentiment that Randy Travis sings about in his second single, “Dig Two Graves.”

Travis reflects on the day he vowed to spend his life with the woman he loves, noting the change a life together has had on their love and he comes to the realization that they have become one over time. His wife has become his heart and soul and he can’t imagine life without her.

There isn’t anything overly remarkable about the song, nor is there anything noteworthy about the vocal, in fact, “Faith In You” exhibited a marked decline in Travis’ voice–which is apparent in a few instances on the album–but “Dig Two Graves” doesn’t reveal that weakness. The understated vocal is part of the song’s appeal, as it’s not overwrought with emotionalism, but is simply an honest testament of a husband’s love for his wife.

However, the combination of song and Travis’ performance together are an example of what makes country music truly exceptional–it’s ability to take a truth deeper than many of us have experienced or even realized and make it accessible through a song or performance. Both singles from Around The Bend have been love songs from a mature perspective that not many of today’s artists could pull off convincingly. They approach the subject of love in a way that may not be generic enough to have success at radio, but that has no bearing on their quality.

A couple of other songs from Around The Bend might have made for better releases, but other than the occasional anomaly, Travis’ days of radio success are most likely over, despite his ability to still create worthwhile and compelling music.

CD store owner

Went into a little music shop in Newport, RI and started talking about Randy's new CD with one of the female managers. She said she's been coming to the website and hearing the song previews and reading Antony's blogs too. Great to see that everybody still loves Randy!!

Newport RI

Newport is a beautiful place. I am from CT but my niece went to Salve Regina University right on the ocean and surrounded my mansions.

Another Dig Two Graves Review!!

Thanks for the review; not sure i'd call it great due to a couple comments in it but overall, not bad.

At least it is making people aware of its existence. i happen to disagree that it isn't good for radio; as i 've said before, perhaps a different song (more upbeat) at this time would have been my choice for now but i love this song.

Again, thanks Sarah.

Re: Review

Thanks horsegirl92491, for this enjoyable review. I have to disagree with his comment that Randy's voice has weakened. I think he is mistaking a deeper vocal he now displays compared to when he first came on the scene, as a weakness. When in fact it has only matured. Is just as compelling as ever. In my humble opinion anyway.

It's understandable how one can become conditioned to a certain sound. Having had a decade plus, of pop sounding artists coming at you on a regular basis. So keeping that in mind, I can forgive the man for thinking that Randy's voice has weakened.

As for thinking his radio play days are behind him, I certainly hope not. The Country Bear station on the www ( that I mentioned in an earlier post) has supported every single song Randy has released (as a single) throughout his career. Be it gospel or country. Dee

Here's Randy talking at CMA Fest backstage

Just found this on MSN Video. It was taken at CMA Fest. He talks about CMA Fest "back in the day" and his favorite artists (JOSH TURNER, Brad Paisley, And Carrie Underwood).

Just Wondering?

Has anyone heard "Dig Two Graves' on the radio yet? I noticed in Music row Magazine on their mini Breakout Chart Week 29 it did go up from #70 last week to #51 this week. I was just wondering as i've not yet heard it.

Not yet

Not on the two more local stations here Linda. But I am going to switch over to the one coming out of Md to see if they are. They usually mix in the older artists with the new ones. So they may have given it some spins if it's jumped that much . Don't they just track the larger stations? Dee
